Peter Collin's work is an exploration through palette knife
and brush techniques, demonstrating his passion and knowledge of his materials. In his most recent series he has focused on his love of the classic Volkswagon, pushing his experimentation with paint even further and recreating weather-beaten bodywork with incredible effect.

Another favorite theme concentrates on his fascination with Cornish fishing harbours, where he has abstracted images by using a close-up viewpoint. These canvases are heavily textured with oil paint and also flotsam picked off the beaches and stuck down on to the canvas.

 

Peter Collins was born in Gloucester in 1979. He studied fine art at Stroud School of Art and at Swindon College where in 2002 he gained a degree in Illustration. He is now based in Oxfordshire.

Collins' work is a sensuous exploration through a variety of textures, colours and expressions. The battle is played out on the canvas, some areas barer than others. Mainly impasto paintwork, with never much subtracted.

The artist is drawn back to the sea because of its mystery and means by which to escape from the rest of the world and his paintings represent the romance between us and the coast. The artist draws inspiration from abstract expressionism and Antoni Tapies amongst others. As well as his paintings, Collins is also developing a body of prints inspired by the German Expressionists using the same subject matter.

Peter Collins has exhibited with the Gloucester Artists Network, the Paintings in Hospitals Charity and at Gloucester Guildhall.
